Notes

Regrettably there are no surviving factory records, nor are there inscriptions including presentation dates on extant instruments prior to 1928. The dates within the periods at the known addresses (2 Tracey Street; 323 Kennington Road) can only be estimates. It appears that french horns in the early period were allocated serial numbers in a different sequence from that used for other instruments since placing them in the same sequence leads to anomalies. At present it is not clear whether the main sequence began to be used for french horns soon after the 1911 move or soon before 1928 when the first such is recorded (16545). It may be possible to improve dating precision if further extant instruments come to light.
