Agnes Kory will be joined by Joanna Morrison (soprano) and Leon Coates (harpsichord) in

  • Giuseppe Torelli (1658-1709): Sonata in G major (Adagio, Allegro, Adagio, Allegro)
  • Antonio Caldara (c.1670-1736): Letioni Nos. 1(d), 14(G), 28(g) and 32 (F sharp) [from the 44 exercises in unpublished manuscript in Estensian Collection, Vienna - this may be their first performance ever]
  • Benedetto Marcello (1686-1739): Sonata in E minor (Adagio, Allegro, Largo, Andante)
  • J.S. Bach: Cantata BWV 180, soprano aria (3. Recitativo e Choral)

    Sunday - Viola da Gamba Society viol playing workshop

    On Sunday June 4 form 11:00 to 17:00 there will be a viol playing workshop at Carlops (15 miles from Edinburgh) with Alison Crum coaching viol consorts. Cost Lstg 18.00 including lunch. Transport and instruments can be provided. The workshop is being arranged by the Viola da Gamba Society for members, contact Dr J.P. Campbell.

    The concert and the workshop are being organised as part of the Viola da Gamba Society Meetings Series.

    The Venue

    Edinburgh, capital of Scotland, is one of the most spectacularly beautiful cities of Europe. The sessions will take place in Scotland's oldest Concert Hall (St Cecilia's Hall, also housing the Russell Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments). St Cecilia's Hall is in the Cowgate, at the foot of Niddry Street, in the centre of the city.

    Exhibition

    Over the period 1-3 June there will be a small special temporary exhibition at the National Library of Scotland, George IV Bridge. This will include some of the Panmure and other music books.
